The world in a tube
Television is a great help to those of us in lock-land areas, away from civilization. After the best views presented by verdant mountains, the tube offers temporary solace, fun and laughter. And cheaper than online reading. To keep me entertained this summer-that is after spring cleaning- I just switch on the remote and be transported to several continents, different cultures, food and people. What a way to see the world!
Being a tv junkie, I can watch hours of my favourite programmes. I love the following chefs and presenters: the funny Ian Wright [my children love him too], Justine Shapiro and another woman traveler of Globe Trekker. Jamie Olivier, Giada Di Laurentiis, Barefoot Contessa, Bobby Chinn, Take Home Chef Curtis Stone, Andrew Zimmern [if you a have a strong stomach for bizarre food],to name a few.
Next is my big fave, Amazing Race! Love this! And of course, Ms. Oprah Winfrey's show, Project Runway and let's not forget American Idol. I can't wait to see the season's winner. Acerbic as he is, please keep Simon Cowell in the show. He gives a tinge to sweet comments. An equalizer so to speak.
Then to the horror of my youngest who still can't believe I like Merlin's Adventure, I love classics and old movies. I prefer this over nonsense sitcoms and soap operas.
BUT, shameful as it is, I am beginning to like local telenovelas of GMA7. I switch channels whenever commercial comes into view, I just don't like too many of it.
For news, I am a convert. Though I like some CNN presenters, I prefer watching BBC News. I don't know. It just seems not too hyper for me. Not noisy. Others may call it boring but I prefer to listen to them.
So, while my son is busy with his sports and games, I have my favourite form of entertainment. He joins me in some of those I mentioned.
There are may great shows out there. These are just some of those I have watched over the years. Apart from news and documentaries, I only get to watch them during my free time - and that's not a lot. I am taking the most of it this summer vacation.

I used to watch Idol with my son, but we gave it up last year. I did like Simon. This year my shows are Gray's Anatomy and House. I also like 2 &1/2 men and Everybody loves Raymond and Seinfield reruns. But my favorite is Sex in the City - i watch it every nite that i can find it. as for news CNBC is my fav. Some, most of the people on CNN bother me, tho i do watch it.
